An API, short for application programming interface, is simply a way for two pieces of software to pass information to each other directly, without a person moving it by hand. A print job, a scanned invoice or a new user record can move straight from Printix into Microsoft 365, Box, AWS, SAP, Xero or dozens of other systems a customer already runs, often through no-code tools their own IT team already owns.
